New Member Information Meeting Monday Nov. 7th or Thursday Nov. 10th

November 8, 2011

Becoming a member of Zion is not a prerequisite for participation in
our congregation or our ministries, however it is the best way to be a genuine part

of the church. Public vows taken in joining the church serve as a powerful reminder that we are not ashamed to identify with Christ or his people. Membership opens you to greater opportunities to use the spiritual gifts God has given you as a disci- ple of Christ. Membership information classes will be held Monday, Nov. 7 from 7-9 pm or Thursday. Nov. 10 from 7-9 pm. New members will be received in worship on the weekend of November 20.

Sunday School Canned Good Collection

March 31, 2011

The Sunday School students will be collecting canned goods to give to our local pantry. We will create a special display up until Palm Sunday. Each student is challenged to bring a can of a different color as well as an offering for the hungry…along with their usual donation. We wonder which class will bring the most cans!

This Sunday, April 17th, Sunday School youth are being asked to bring cans of Spaghetti-os & ravioli.  Peanut Butter is always welcome! In this season of Lent, please remember those who are in need, and when you are at the store, just pick-up a few of these extra items. Together we will make a difference.
Over 600 families from Southington are using the food pantry each month.

One Faith, One Church, One Vision, One Worship at 9 am March 20

March 15, 2011

Save Sunday March 20 as we worship as one congregation, at one service at 9 am. There will be no Saturday 4 pm service / no Sunday 8 or 10:15 service/ No Sunday school. WE WILL WORSHIP AS ONE FAITH, AS ONE CHURCH, DREAMING OF ONE VISION. Following the service we will gather to dream of what our ministry in this place is now and will be in the years to come. Save the date and join us as the Holy Spirit gives us renewed vision with boldness to live out our faith in love as the people of God at Zion Lutheran.

Daily Lenten Devotionals

March 1, 2011

Lent 2011 begins on Wednesday, March 9, 2011. Here at Zion we will begin our Lenten discipline with our Ash Wednesday service at 7 pm. It will also be the beginning of the 40 days of daily emails. I will write a devotion for Monday – Friday for each of the six weeks of Lent. I will not post a devotion over the weekend.

This year I’m using “A Call To Die” by David Nasser as my inspiration. It is a call for 40 days of fasting from the world and feasting on God. He writes,”In the Christian life, we are called upon to pursue a daily death as though our lives depended upon it. The scriptures are filled with such paradoxes. To be set free, you must become a slave. To be filled, you must hunger and thirst. To become greater, we must become less. And the hardest of all: To live, you must die to self. This is what the apostle Paul meant when he declared, “To live is Christ, and to die is gain…”"

Make sure we have your email and that you are receiving constant contact emails from us. If you are you are all set. If not then send me your email so it can be added and you can join us on this 40 day devotional journey.
